Track Day Prep: What Every Porsche Owner Needs to Know
Essential steps to prepare your Porsche for the circuit — from fluids to rubber, safety to technique.

Why Track Day Prep Matters
Taking your Porsche on track is one of the most rewarding experiences in automotive ownership. But the track environment is brutal on machinery. Proper preparation isn't just about performance — it's about safety and protecting your investment.
The Essential Checklist
Fluids
- Brake Fluid: Switch to a high-temperature fluid like Motul RBF 600. Standard DOT 4 will boil on track.
- Engine Oil: Ensure you have fresh oil. Consider a higher viscosity if your track sessions are extended.
- Coolant: Check the level and condition. Overheating is the number one track-day killer.
Brakes
This is the most critical system for track use. Stock pads will fade after a few hard laps.
- Upgrade to track-compound pads (Pagid, Hawk, or Ferodo)
- Flush brake fluid the day before the event
- Inspect rotors for thickness and cracks
Tires
- Check tread depth and tire age (no older than 5 years)
- Set pressures cold: 34 PSI front, 38 PSI rear (adjust after first session)
- Remove wheel covers for better brake cooling
Safety Equipment
- Helmet: SA2020 or newer rated
- Fire extinguisher: Mounted and accessible
- Tow hook: Installed and visible
On Track Tips
- Start slow — Learn the track layout before pushing
- Use your mirrors — Let faster cars pass safely
- Brake in a straight line — Trail braking comes with experience
- Stay hydrated — The cockpit gets hot
